Although in Kim Kardashian’s case she seems to be merely uninformed when she used her twitter account to criticise Syrian rebels over an alleged massacre of Armenians – which turned out to be Syrian propaganda.
So she gave a boost to President Assad’s regime – responsible for killing 150,00 of its own people, including using chemical weapons on them, since 2011 – rather than herself on this occasion. Not sure if she’s apologised, probably been too busy self-publicising.
Last Xmas Mariah Carey performed for the Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos who has been in power and presided over a bloody civil war for 30 years and where 70% of the population live on less than $2 a day.
The President’s daughter is the richest woman in Africa and it was her phone company which sponsored the event at which Carey said “she was honoured to share this show with the President of Angola”.
Carey has previous; in 2008 she performed at a New Year’s Eve party for one of Gaddafi’s sons. She did apologise 3 years later and promised that the profits from a song called “Save the Day” would be donated to a human rights organisation. We’re still waiting!
Beyoncé, she who mimed the American National Anthem, also performed for the Gaddafi family although later donated her fee to charity.
Jennifer Lopez apologised for singing “Happy Birthday” for the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, an infamous violator of human rights.
But back to Kardashian; she was allegedly paid $500,000 to say fewer than 10 words at an event in Lagos last year.
